Friday is the sixth day of the Islamic week. The literal meaning of Friday is congregation. In Islam, this day has the most important than any other day of the week. Every Friday, Jumma namaz is offered and for this prayer special time is taken. Imams of all masjids deliver khutbah on a special topic every Friday. Importance of Jumma is in one of hadith of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H):
“There is an hour on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while offering Salat and asks something from Allah Almighty, then Allah will definitely fulfill his demands and Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) pointed out the shortness of that particular time with his hands.”

Jumma Namaz

Preparation of Jumma Namaz:

Cleansing is the the half faith of Muslims in the religion of Islam. It is obligatory on every Muslim to be clean before offering prayer. There are some preparations that every Muslim should prepare for Friday prayer before going to the mosque. The first act to start with is to get purified by having a shower and also ablution should be performed. Dress in clean clothes. The application of Itr (Perfume) is also one of the main things or you can apply Surma in your eyes as well.

Maintaining dignity and not talking between the prayers is a kind of etiquette one should follow. Try to sit close to Imam, if there is a place in the front rows of the Imam. A person should avoid stepping over people to get a particular spot in the mosque. Try to sit where you find a place and don’t disturb others.

Jumma Namaz:

The importance of Friday can understand by the fact that there is a complete Surah in the Holy Quran after the day of Jumma. As we also mentioned above, Muslims gather on Friday in mosques to pray to the Jumma Namaz collectively in the congregation. Before starting the prayer the orator delivers a speech, which is called “Friday Sermon” or “Khutbah”. The orator admonishes people and gives Quran lessons about religious matters and affairs in Friday sermon.
Muslims should listen to the sermon attentively. Any type of conversation during the sermon is prohibited. After the Imam has delivered the second part of the sermon, the Iqamah is recited and the Imam leads the congregational two Rakat of Jumma Namaz.

The Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) Islam did not approve of a person telling others to refrain from conversation while the Imam is delivering his Sermon. In unavoidable circumstances, a gesture by hand or with a finger can be made to draw the attention of someone to stop talking. In case the Imam asks something during the sermon, then he should  reply him.

The Friday prayer always takes place in the afternoon. It replaces the afternoon prayer. Many mosques in the West have fix timing in which everyone say Jumma Namaz. Jummah namaz time in most mosques will usually fall between 12-3 pm.
